My favorite part of taking portraits is honoring the existence of the person I am documenting. That is what it’s all about and that is what it will continue to be about. 

When I think of portraiture, I think of consent. Portraiture isn’t for me alone. It is a

shared experience. It takes hold of you. We are sharing ourselves with each other. I never thought that photographers make the ones they document beautiful. All these folks that I document were beautiful long before I picked up the camera. Before I asked them to be a part of my journey. Before I asked them if I could be a part of theirs.
